Heather Hays, MHA, OTR/L, FACHE, CFRE
Heather has a wide scope of expertise that spans clinical, administrative, marketing, and start-up entrepreneurial experience
Heather found a passion for functional medicine when the Institute of Functional Medicine was beginning to gain a presence in the early 2000’s. She found that as an occupational therapist in pediatrics, solving the root causes of dysfunction through nutrition often improved cognition and behavior. Heather knows first-hand the challenges that poor health can manifest as she and her four children were diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2002. As a family they have continued to embrace their love of food and celebration of health with joy. Heather shifted her healthcare career to philanthropic development in 2015 as the New Jersey Executive Director for Autism Speaks. So many families impacted by the complex disorder, and searching for root causes. Heather eventually found herself in a leadership role at a large healthcare system. Heather’s mission to always learn and improve led her back to IFM and she enrolled in the certified practitioner’s program.
Heather’s educational background includes a degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Minnesota, a Master in Health Administration from George Washington University, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and she will be certified in functional medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine in November 2023.
